Murals of Our Ancestral Roots & Bringing Nature to our streets

Murals that focus on our ancient past, the Iron Age, and early Medieval period. These times not only shaped the history of Scotland, but the rest of Britain. Nature murals of our woodland and animals - breaking up the grey concrete with green tones

Bringing it to life

Over the years I’ve noticed there are very few murals that celebrate our ancient heritage. It is often overlooked or not taught, which is a shame, because not only did it form our past, but it is a fascinating period which is rich in source material that makes for great visuals in general, whatever the medium. Our ancestors from these periods are rarely represented in modern public art. We have many historical statues, but these all seem to be within the period of the last 300 years. We have very few works celebrating the heritage of Picts, Gaels, Saxons and even Vikings. These pieces are simply an attempt to address that, to remember them and to spark interest — hopefully some people will go home and search for more about the past.

Nature Artwork

Nature murals are about the beauty of the natural world, our woodland and its calming presence. Our ancestors were deeply connected to nature and the animal kingdom. Animals appear frequently in their legends, carved into standing stones, jewellery and weapons. The two themes go hand in hand. Nature murals also work well in urban settings, bringing a piece of the forest to people who don’t get to see it often. People have often remarked on how nature murals brighten their day when seeing them.
